The Uchikawa area in Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture, is known as the “Venice of Japan” because of the beautiful townscape that stretches along the river.
This article will introduce the Shinminato Hikiyama Festival.
This is a traditional festival in this area.
Summary of the Shinminato Hikiyama Festival
The Shinminato Hikiyama Festival takes place every year on October 1st.
This festival is one of the annual autumn festivals of the Hojotsu Hachiman Shrine and has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
There are 13 floats, the most in Toyama Prefecture.
It changes appearance to a “flower mountain” during the day and a “lantern mountain” at night, and the sight of it being paraded around town is magnificent.
As the sounds of the festival float music reverberate throughout the area, the 13 majestic floats ring out with chants of “Iyasa, Iyasa!”
The sight of them bravely making sharp turns around narrow street corners accompanied by their unique chants is a highlight.
My impression
This was my first time seeing this festival.
To be honest, I had never really been interested in this festival before.
But when I actually saw it, I was really excited.
The moment when the “Lantern Mountains” are all lit up at night is a must-see.
The sight of 13 floats lined up in a line and parading through the town was a spectacular sight.
My child also enjoyed it, shouting “Iyasa, Iyasa!”
I had a very good time with my family.
Lastly
How was it?
I hope this traditional festival will continue in the future.
Everyone, please come and visit this festival.
Thank you for reading to the end. Bye.
